With its luxurious interior and polished performance, the 2014 Nissan Altima is a well-rounded car, deserving of its standing among the best used sedans. It’s also a great value, due in part to a healthy serving of standard features. When it was new, the 2014 Altima was a finalist in our Best Midsize Car for the Money award.
The Altima handles better than most rival vehicles in its class, providing sharp steering and a controlled feel in corners. It comes with one of two engines: models that include “2.5” in their name are powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers brisk acceleration. This engine also has one of the highest nonhybrid fuel economy ratings among its peers: an EPA-estimated 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. If you want something even more robust, look for the “3.5” trim designation. Under the hood of these models is a potent 3.5-liter V6 engine, upping horsepower from 182 to 270. Both engines come with a continuously variable transmission (a type of automatic transmission, also called a CVT), which bolsters the Altima’s gas mileage.
